Get your free estimateLennox Thermostat Installation: The San Antonio Owner’s Guide
Lennox thermostat installation in San Antonio typically runs $180 – $340 installed, including the thermostat itself, wiring verification, system compatibility testing, and programming. We stock Lennox-compatible thermostats on our trucks and can usually complete the swap same-day. Most San Antonio homeowners discover the problem the hard way: the display goes blank, the house won’t hold temperature, or the system short-cycles through a hot afternoon and the AC never quite catches up.

Here’s what actually happens with a failing thermostat, what it costs to fix, and what to check before you call anyone.
Which Lennox Models This Applies To
We install and configure thermostats across the full Lennox residential lineup: the Merit series (ML14, ML17, ML18), the Elite series (EL22, EL23, EL296), and the higher-efficiency Dave Lennox Signature Collection (SLP99, XC25, S40). The thermostat your Lennox system needs depends on how many stages your equipment runs and whether it communicates digitally.
This is the gotcha most people miss: Lennox communicating systems (like the S30, S40, or iComfort series) use a proprietary four-wire protocol that does not play well with generic third-party thermostats. If your system is a communicating setup, you need either the same Lennox communicating thermostat or a properly configured universal thermostat with an interface module. If you have a standard single-stage or two-stage Lennox system, you have far more options, including quality aftermarket units from Honeywell, Ecobee, or Sensi that cost less than Lennox-branded replacements and do the same job. The model number on your existing thermostat faceplate or the control board inside the air handler tells us which side of that line you’re on.
We’re an independent service provider, not affiliated with Lennox directly. That means we can recommend the best option for the system you have, not just the most expensive one in the catalog.

Signs Your Lennox Thermostat Installation Is Failing
- Display goes blank or flickers. This often points to a wiring connection loosened over time, or a failed internal battery if your Lennox model uses one. San Antonio’s heat and humidity accelerate corrosion at terminal connections, especially on older thermostats mounted near a door or window.
- System short-cycles. The AC kicks on for three minutes, shuts off, then kicks on again. That’s usually a temperature sensor drifting out of spec, so the thermostat thinks the room is two degrees cooler than it actually is.
- Room temperature doesn’t match the setting. You set 74, and the thermostat reads 74, but the room feels like 80. That mismatch is the hallmark of a failing thermistor, the tiny component that measures air temperature. It’s not repairable, only replaceable.
- No response when you adjust the setting. The display lights up and accepts input, but the system never cycles. On Lennox systems, this can be a stuck relay inside the thermostat base or a failed communication signal from the thermostat to the control board.
- System runs constantly or won’t turn off. A welded relay in the thermostat base means the cooling call stays energized even after the setpoint is reached. In San Antonio, that means a compressor running nonstop in July, and an electric bill that looks like a car payment.
Any single one of these is worth investigating. Two or more together usually means the thermostat is done.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
A basic Lennox-compatible thermostat installation in San Antonio runs $180 – $260 installed, covering a standard non-communicating digital thermostat and the labor to wire, mount, program, and test it. If you have a Lennox communicating system and need an S30 or S40 replacement, expect $300 – $340 installed, because the thermostat itself costs more and we run a full system communication check after mounting. If you want Wi-Fi and smart features on a communicating system, the upper end of that range applies.
Every installation quote is a written price before any work starts. That price includes removal of the old thermostat, wiring verification, new thermostat mounting and leveling, programming per your schedule, and a full cycle test of heat and cool. No surprise fees for a second-stage wire that needs re-terminating, no upcharge because it’s Saturday. The work is covered by the 365-Day Done Right Promise: if the installation fails within a year, we come back and make it right at no charge, no argument.

DIY or Call Us?
Some things are worth checking yourself. Pull the old thermostat off its base (most pop off with a gentle tug) and look for obvious corrosion, a loose wire at a terminal, or a dead battery. Replace the battery if your model has one. Tighten any screw terminal that looks loose. If that fixes the display and restores function, you’ve saved yourself a service call.
What you should not do is start moving wires between terminals without knowing exactly what each one does. A low-voltage thermostat wire carries 24 volts AC, which won’t shock you, but a miswired common wire can toast a control board or blow a low-voltage fuse inside your Lennox air handler. That turns a $200 thermostat swap into a $450 board replacement. If the display is blank and a new battery doesn’t fix it, or the system won’t respond, stop there and call us. We’ll send a technician who knows Lennox wiring, carries the right thermostats on the truck, and will give you a written price before touching anything. That’s (361) 470-8872.
FAQs
Most Lennox thermostats last 8 to 12 years, but San Antonio’s heat and humidity shorten that on the low end, especially if the thermostat is mounted on an exterior wall or near a heat source like a lamp or electronics. If yours is older than ten years and acting up, replacement usually makes more sense than repair.
Occasionally, yes. A loose terminal wire, corroded connection, or dead battery can be repaired in a single visit. But a failed internal sensor, relay, or communication board inside the thermostat itself is not serviceable, and the part swap is the repair. Call us at (361) 470-8872 and describe what it’s doing. We’ll tell you over the phone which situation you’re likely in.
A straightforward replacement takes 45 to 90 minutes from arrival to a tested, programmed system. Communicating Lennox systems take closer to two hours because we run a full communication check after wiring to confirm the thermostat and the indoor unit are talking correctly.
We stock common Lennox-compatible non-communicating thermostats and universal smart thermostats on our service vans throughout San Antonio, so most replacements happen in one visit. For proprietary Lennox communicating thermostats like the S30 or S40, we typically need a day to pull the part from our supplier, and we’ll give you a written quote before ordering anything.
Tell me what’s wrong, I’ll tell you what it costs, and we’ll get your house back to livable. Call (361) 470-8872 for a free estimate on Lennox thermostat installation in San Antonio.
