Lennox Mini-Split Installation: The San Antonio Owner’s Guide

We stock and install Lennox-compatible mini-split systems throughout San Antonio, with most complete installations running $3,500 to $7,500 depending on the number of zones, line-set length, and whether we’re replacing an existing unit or running new electrical. We keep common Lennox condensers, wall-mounted heads, and line sets on our trucks, so if your system failed and you need it back up fast, we can often start the same week with a written price before any work begins. Most San Antonio owners we hear from discover the problem the same way: the indoor head stopped blowing cold, the outdoor unit started making a sound like gravel in a blender, or the system tripped a breaker and never came back right.

Which Lennox Models This Applies To

We install parts and complete systems for the Lennox MLA and MPB mini-split lines, along with the newer ML17 and ML14 single-zone and multi-zone units. The quickest way to identify what you have is to check the nameplate on the side of the outdoor condenser. It lists the model number, refrigerant type, and capacity in BTUs. The indoor head has a smaller sticker, usually inside the front cover, that shows the same model family. One thing that catches people off guard: Lennox indoor and outdoor units are matched in pairs. You cannot put a 12,000 BTU indoor head on an 18,000 BTU condenser even if the connectors look the same. The control board checks and will lock the system out. When we quote a job, we verify that pairing before ordering anything.

On the parts side, we use genuine Lennox components and, where it makes sense, a select set of quality aftermarket equivalents that meet the same pressure and electrical ratings. For boards and sensors, we lean OEM because the communication between the indoor and outdoor units is picky. For things like drain pans, blower wheels, and remote controls, a good aftermarket part can save $60 to $120 without any performance difference.

Signs Your Lennox Mini-Split Installation Is Failing

  • Weak airflow from the indoor head, even on high fan. This is usually a blower wheel clogged with Texas dust and mildew, or a failing blower motor. In San Antonio, the dry spells drop a fine layer of dust that ends up caked on the wheel blades. We pull the wheel and clean or replace it, and airflow usually snaps back.
  • The outdoor unit runs but the indoor head barely cools. The most common cause is low refrigerant, which means there’s a leak somewhere in the line set or coil. We do a nitrogen pressure test to find it before we add anything. Refrigerant is not a top-off fluid; if it’s low, there’s a hole.
  • The system short-cycles, clicking on and off every few minutes. On Lennox units this often points to a thermistor or control board issue rather than a compressor problem. The board reads a bad temperature signal and kills the cycle. It’s a straightforward swap, and the part is usually $90 to $180 before labor.
  • Water dripping from the indoor head onto your wall or floor. The condensate drain line is blocked, or the pump that pushes water out of the head has failed. San Antonio humidity makes this a regular call for us, especially in mid-summer when the units are pulling gallons of water out of the air every day.
  • A burnt smell or a breaker that trips when the system calls for cooling. That is an electrical issue inside either the condenser or the indoor head. Do not keep resetting the breaker. You have a failing capacitor, a shorted compressor, or a bad fan motor. Repeatedly resetting the breaker can make the compressor fail permanently.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

A full Lennox mini-split installation in San Antonio typically runs $3,500 to $7,500 installed. That includes the outdoor condenser, the indoor head or heads, a new line set, the drain line, the thermostat or remote, and all labor and electrical connections. Single-zone systems fall on the lower end. Multi-zone systems with two or three indoor heads climb toward the top because each head adds roughly $900 to $1,400 in parts and labor, and the line sets get more complex to route and cover.

If the failure is a single part rather than the whole system, you are looking at a repair price instead. In San Antonio, mini-split repairs run $150 to $650 for most component failures, parts and labor included. Every repair we do includes a written guarantee, and if a repair fails within the guarantee period, we return at no charge under our 365-Day Done Right Promise.

DIY or Call Us?

There are a few safe things you can check. Make sure the indoor head filter is clean. Confirm the breaker is fully seated in the panel. Look at the outdoor unit and clear away leaves, grass clippings, or anything blocking the coil. Those checks take five minutes and cost nothing.

Beyond that, call us. Mini-splits are not forgiving for the do-it-yourself route. The refrigerant circuit is under high pressure, the electrical connections are inside panels that require the power off at the disconnect, and the line set connections involve flare fittings that leak if they are not torqued exactly right. We have seen more than one well-meaning homeowner turn a $200 repair into a full system replacement. If the unit is dead, call (361) 470-8872 and we will send a technician with the right test gauges and the right parts on the truck.
